How to Choose The Best Lingerie For Your Body Type

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT LINGERIE FOR YOUR BODY TYPE

I should start this post by saying this is a general post intended to help you find the most flattering pieces for your body type. It is not suggesting you can’t wear something you want to wear because you have a different body type than what I’ve recommended a piece for!

This post is not the end all be all, it’s just a fun way to talk about how to flatter different figures and what to look for when you’re shopping!

There are many lingerie types that will look good on every body type. For instance, fitted bodysuits as well as bra & panty sets will look good on everyone’s figure!

Depending on your body type (and your own personal preferences), there are some details you want to be sure to consider.

So how do you choose the right lingerie for your body type?

Let’s dive in!

INVERTED TRIANGLE BODY TYPE

This means your hip measurement is smaller than your waist which is smaller than your chest measurement. If this is your body type, you probably want to show off your chest and add volume to your hips!

BODYSUITS AND TEDDIES

Bodysuits and teddies are always a good idea. The biggest thing for an inverted triangle is going to be to ensure you have the support you want for your chest.

BOYSHORTS OR ROMPERS

My best tip with this body shape is to add volume to your hips and legs rather than your chest.

I love the idea of loose lacy boy shorts for this body type. You could pair them with a bra, bralette, or just cover your chest with your arms!

You could also look into a lingerie romper. This will add volume to your hips while also flattering your natural waist.

ACCESSORIES

Loose socks can also be super cozy and fun on this body type. A lingerie dress can be a different and flattering option for you as well. It will provide some femininity and volume around the hips.

You may even consider a sportier option such as a cute sports bra paired with a looser pair of denim blue jeans.

BLANKETS AND SHEETS

Blankets and sheets can be a great way to show off your chest while giving a cozy vibe.

TRIANGLE / PEAR BODY TYPE

The triangle or pear body type means your chest and waist measurements are smaller than your hip measurement. Women with this body type have amazing hips and curves that we’ll definitely want to show off! We probably want to increase volume on the chest where we can.

BODYSUITS AND TEDDIES

Bodysuits and teddies are a good option for everyone!

If you’re a pair shape, be sure the cut is high on your legs and accentuates your natural waist. Bodysuits that are cut to the naval can look amazing on this body type.

BRA AND PANTY SET

Bra and panty sets are another a great way to show off your torso and your beautiful hips.

You may want a push up bra to add volume to your chest, or you may just opt for a lighter option like a bralette.

My biggest piece of advice here is to be sure you’re choosing underwear that only shows what you’re comfortable with.

If you’re worried about your lower stomach, consider an underwear with a little more coverage. If you love your lower stomach area, maybe opt for something with a little less coverage.

Always remember, if you don’t think you look good in your outfit, it will show in your photos. So be sure to choose something you love!

SHIRTS

Oversized sweaters and t-shirts (long sleeve or short sleeve) can look amazing on this body type. Short sleeve crop tops with underwear also flatter the triangle or pear body type.

ACCESSORIES AND TIPS

Garter belts look great on this body type! However, I don’t generally recommend stockings with garter belts because they can visually cut off your legs and make them appear shorter.

I do recommend underwear that is cut higher on your legs/hips because this will visually lengthen them!

HOURGLASS BODY TYPE

This means that your waist measurement is smaller than your chest and hip measurements. Although all body shapes are beautiful, this is that classic feminine shape that most women aspire to.

If I’m being honest, most lingerie options are going to look great on you!

BODYSUITS AND TEDDIES

A few things to keep in mind: be sure you have the support you want in the chest area and your natural waist is accentuated/complimented by the set you choose.

BRA AND PANTY SET

Make sure you choose a bra with the level of support you want. If you worry about your lower stomach, consider high waisted underwear. It’ll look amazing on you!

OTHER OPTIONS

A corset or bustier can look really good on your figure too since it’ll just compliment your natural curves.

ROUND / OVAL / APPLE BODY TYPE

This means your chest and hip measurements are smaller than your waist measurement.

Most of the women I photograph mention their stomachs as areas of self-consciousness on their questionnaire – particularly those with an apple body type.

If you have an oval or apple body shape, you may be feeling some of the same apprehensions.

The good news is, there are plenty of outfits you can choose to minimize your stress around this area while helping you feel as amazing as you look!

BODYSUITS AND TEDDIES

Look for plunging necklines that will draw the eye up away from your stomach. Alternatively, you could opt for something with a lot of chest support that will also serve to draw the eye up and highlight your chest in your photos!

When looking at bodysuits, be sure to pay attention to the cut on the bottom. I will always and forever be a proponent of cheeky underwear for the most flattering option, but if you’re really wanting to show off your booty, a thong can be a good choice as well.

I had a lady bring one to her session and she looked INCREDIBLE in it! It hugged her in all the right places and flattered her chest and booty beautifully.

BRA AND PANTY SET

If you’re worried about showing something, my best advice is simply don’t show it.

I love a good high waisted undie with a matching supportive bra for apple body shapes. You can even find a high waist underwear option with some built in shapeware/compression features if you’re worried about your stomach.

CORSETS

This can be a great option for apple body types. The main caveat is to ensure it fits you properly! Not too tight and not too loose!

SWEATERS

These are excellent ways to cover your stomach and show off your legs while giving off a cozy and sexy vibe. In general, a v-neck or wide scoop neck is going to be a very flattering option to draw attention to your chest.

ACCESSORIES!

Accessories can be very strategic. Robes, jackets, and blue jeans are some of my favorite ways to create the illusion of a slimmer waistline in your photos.

SHEETS

One of the best things about sheets is the fact that you can cover what you want to. If you’re concerned about your stomach, we can just cover it and show off other parts of your body instead. I promise, you’ll look and feel amazing!

RECTANGLE BODY TYPE

This means your chest, waist, and hip measurements are all about the same. This is often an athletic body type, but not always. Often, I see moms with this body type after having children.

This is actually my body type!

BODYSUITS AND TEDDIES

You may be sensing a theme here with the bodysuits! That’s because they look amazing on all body types.

What I like to look for when dressing a rectangle body type is a plunging neckline (ideally down to the naval). At the very least, find something that will draw attention to your chest.

If you’re like me, you may not be working with much at all in the chest area. I love to just embrace my small chest and show off the area anyway. Movie stars such as Kiera Knightly come to mind when I think of this body type.

I also like to look for things that will hit on my natural waist line to help define my waist.

Something else to consider is a high cut on the legs and a cheeky, thong, or pretty back.

BRA AND PANTY SETS

Personally, I prefer to embrace my small chest and wear a bralette or something light with no push up.

However, a good push up bra can add some curves to your look if that’s more your style! Or maybe you’re working with more than I am and a push up bra would be a great way to accentuate the curves you do have!

If you’re like me with a small chest, I recommend checking out Pepper for a good bra that will fit without gapping.

I like to pair it with a cheeky cut or thong underwear. Make sure the underwear comes up high on the sides of your hips to lengthen your legs.

ADDITIONAL TIPS

A sweater or t-shirt look can be really great on this body type. A bustier can also be very flattering for this body type.

CONCLUSION

All body types are beautiful and worthy of celebration through the art of boudoir. At the end of the day, my best advice is to wear what you feel good in!
